Originally used for the Mississauga Indians to trade furs with the Frenchmen, Oshawa Ontario has been established since about 1750. The city of Oshawa now days has a nice growing population of about 146,000 residents and offers a huge variety of things to do and places to see. Included in these is the Robert McLaughlin Gallery which is home to over 3000 of Canada's own art masterpieces. If you are interested in art and are in the downtown area, be sure to check out the many murals that are painted on the downtown buildings. Oshawa features a lot of it's culture around it's General Motor roots which has played a huge part in the development of this fine city. With a total of four art museums in the city, you have plenty to go and see if you're an art lover.
Among other activities, Oshawa hosts an annual Waterfront Festival which begins Fiesta, a festival that lasts a week and includes such attractions as a parade, a musical concert, diverse food selections, and for the little ones, a fun Teddy Bear picnic! This festival is usually visited by over 100,000 people and is enjoyed by each and every one. Many volunteers help make this festivity a successful, fun, safe time for all. Oshawa also offers a variety of shopping and dining experiences for its residents as well.
